Yokohama, Kanagawa, 24 August 2021- We are pleased to announce our latest installation of an ad-financed EV charger at Tsurumi ward office, open to visitors to the ward office for free during opening hours. In this project, we are collaborating with Advertising Nagata, who will be in charge of gathering advertisements and generating ad revenues, which will be used to cover the installation, running and maintenance costs. 

Background

Since our establishment in 2018, we have installed numerous EV chargers in condominiums around the Tokyo metropolitan region, while providing EV users with a free mobile app that allows users to make bookings and payment, as well as a management system for the management companies. Being a pioneer in the EV charging field in Japan, Yourstand is forging forward with new experiments to build up the EV charging infrastructure in Japan, as the world prepares for its transition to become carbon-free.

As part of our new challenge, Yourstand has installed an ad-financed EV charger at Tsurumi ward office in Yokohama. This project aims to contribute to enhancing the EV charging infrastructure in Yokohama, as the city aspires to become carbon-free with its “Zero Carbon Yokohama” mission in accordance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).

Description

In this project, with the cooperation of Advertising Nagata, Yourstand has replaced a broken EV charger at Tsurumi ward office in Yokohama city. This newly replaced EV charger will be financed by advertising revenue, which will cover the replacement costs, as well as maintenance and other running costs. As this new business model runs on ads, it helps to reduce costs for Yokohama city to replace its EV chargers, electricity bills and other costs, and therefore allowing the city to provide free public EV charging to residents of the city.

Another noteworthy feature of this new EV charger is in its usage of image recognition and artificial intelligence (AI) to control the charger. The EV charger is turned on upon a two-step authentication- first, recognition of a car and second, the insertion of the charging plug. The EV charger will then automatically stop after an hour, as stipulated by the rules of usage set by the ward office. By digitizing EV charging trends and power output, we will be able to visualize EV charging patterns and utilize these data to expand and improve EV charging services.

Developing on this business model with EV chargers with digital signage, Yourstand plans to install ad-financed EV chargers in commercial and public facilities, while providing EV users with free public charging, and ultimately realizing a carbon-free society.
